The Johnstown Collection

The Measure of Success: A Birthday, A Milestone, and, of course, Some Photos

For those who just came in, a brief summary of our raison d’être: In the shell of a nut, and minus the backstory, the primary purpose of laurelight is to capture images showing the beauty and character of Johnstown, PA and the surrounding region; and to share those images with exiles and expats looking for a hint of home; with residents who may need reminded that they live in a special place; and with anyone else who may have in interest in the offerings of Johnstown and Pennsylvania’s Southern Highlands.

Laurelight.com turned 6 years old on April 2. Looking back, and considering the wealth of visual imagery in the area, the only surprising thing is that the founder stuck with something that long. I don’t care to get my name in the local provincial rag. Laurelight will certainly never win a Best of the Web or Anything Else award. None of that matters. The only purpose is to promote the city, the area, and the people.

Last week, my company’s president purchased 10 prints from the gallery below. He’s going to take these photos to his home in Norway and hang them on his wall. Now here’s where it gets really cool. Almost 4000 miles away, visitors will come to his home and, in a completely different language, ask, “Where?” And the reply will come, “Johnstown, PA, USA.”

Wow. We made it.

Thank you, Sverre, for taking a little bit of our home into your home. Thank you, so much, to our visitors and viewers here and on Facebook for your very kind words, and for sharing us when appropriate. Thank you, thank you, to my family, friends and loved ones for your encouragement, your enthusiasm and your patience. Words can not express. The only thing I can do is to keep taking and sharing the pictures. Enjoy.
