Wandering through my life's backyard one October afternoon

Big thanks to Brian @ the Johnstown Cafe for reminding me that Sam’s Run runs through the backyard of my life. Llaurels also go to my big brother, the ‘other’ Balko, who taught me more than a few things, not least of which were the ways around Belmont Hill and the paths to Sam’s Run and Buttermilk Falls.

This is Buttermilk Falls in Moxham, not to be confused with the falls in Indiana County or the town just below Idlewild Park. Either up from the bottom or down from the top, the climb is pretty much verticle, and don’t think it’s easy scrambling up or down while humping 30 pounds of photo equipment on your back (soon to become a recurring theme on LL). I’m planning to get back, though, when there’s more water running or snow falling. It’s worth the effort, especially if you enjoy the photos.

I went right out the next morning, grabbed a few shots near Norton Street, and got caught in the rain. Inspired and undeterred, I went out the NEXT morning and got some more Stackhouse Park shots near Luzerne Street.

So Laurie, from Powell Stackhouse Park, emails me wondering where the Stackhouse photos are and I’m feeling really stupid because PSP wasn’t even on my radar, and, as you can see from the photos below, it should have been at the top of the list, so I ran out early the next morning, and grabbed a few shots near Norton Street, before getting caught in the rain. Inspired and undeterred, I went out the NEXT morning and got some more Stackhouse Park shots near Luzerne Street.

Anyway, Stackhouse is a very cool place. It fits right in with the Congressman Koontz quote over to your right, and also with the basic concept of Laurelight. I hope you like the shots. I hope Laurie likes the shots. I hope this helps the Park. I can’t wait for the first snowfall.

When you’re finished looking at the photos, head over to the Stackhouse Park website. Check out some of the great things they’re doing with the place, and then become a member. I did, and it feels good.

Love and kisses,
the Balko
