4th of July at Highland and Wheat

Moxham FW 8For 30 years, whenever I talked to Mom on the 5th of July, she’d tell me about the crazy fireworks going off in Moxham the night before. I guess I’d been away too long, because I always thought she’d been talking about a few kids popping of a few M80′s or something. I’d forgotten what life was like back here in the hills. Well, tonight I learned that one of the best places to view fireworks in Johnstown is 50 feet south of my front door at the corner of Highland and Wheat in Moxham. It’s 11:12, and only now the relentless barrage that began around 8:30 is dying down.

I stood in the center of the intersection while a small crowd gathered and everywhere we turned our faces were outlined by rockets’ red glare. Every street, it seemed, was putting on it’s own show. And they were all good, and we could see most of them from right there @ Highland and Wheat, and it was all spontaneous. The cops should track all these people down so THEY can program the city’s fireworks from now on.

I love this town!
